FED Programme Coordinator Dr. Shao Yanju was invited to attend Forth Forum of Both Sides of the Straits, Hong Kong SAR and Macau SAR on Comparative Education

On November 25 and 26, 2017, “Forth Forum of Both Sides of the Straits, Hong Kong SAR and Macau SAR on Comparative Education: Comparative Education in a Common Era” was grandly held in College of Education, Zhejiang University. Hundreds of scholars in the field of comparative education and education internationalization from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan participated in this forum. Dr. Shao Yanju, Programme Corrdinator of Faculty of Education, was invited to attend it and delivered a keynote speech: Social capital and education attainments of disadvantaged immigrant children in Macao: An on-going research.

 

Focusing on the issue of education attainments of immigrant children in Macao, Dr. Shao shared an ongoing study. From the perspective of social capital, Dr. Shao analyzed how Macao’s disadvantaged immigrant children obtain an alternative social capital of multi-resourced closure network to achieve their education attainments. In the meantime, Dr. Shao also pointed out the multi-resourced closure network, which is formed by government, schools, social organizations and social enterprise, plays a crucial role on cultural integration of disadvantaged immigrant families and education attainments of their children. Dr. Shao’s keynote speech contributed an empirical study about Macau local society for this forum.

 

This forum was hosted by Zhejiang University, handled by College of Education and Center for International Education Research, Zhejiang University. Scholars from Mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, and Taiwan region had an actively and heated discussion on various issues such as discipline development paths, quality assurance of higher education, research methodology and talent training, etc.
