CityU Academic Registrar and Dean of Faculty of Education Dr. Shuying Li attended WALS 2017 International Conference in Nagoya

From November 23 to 26, World Association of Lesson Studies (WALS) 2017 International Conference was successfully held in Nagoya University. As the founding member of WALS, CityU Academic Registrar and Dean of Faculty of Education Dr. Shuying Li was invited to give a presentation. The major theme for this conference is on "bridging the gap between theoretical researches and teaching practice through lesson studies". The conference attracted more than 1,000 experts, scholars and teachers from 35 countries.

 

On the morning of November 23, Registrar Li attended the Experts’ Seminar before the conference. Experts from Hong Kong, the United States, Japan, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Mongolia, South Korea and Germany shared the latest research on teaching and lesson studies. On the afternoon, Registrar Li attended the general council meeting, listening the annual report and financial report of the conference secretariat. The representatives of Beijing Normal University, the host university of 2018 annual conference, has introduced the preparation work. After a heated discussion, the council passed a resolution that the 2019 annual conference will be held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

 

On the morning of November 24, the opening ceremony of the conference was held at the Toyoda Auditorium of Nagoya University. Three keynote speeches were successfully given out as well. Registrar Li has given a presentation on the conference with the topic of "Using Learning Study as a University TPD Platform: a Case Study", together with Miss.Gao Yajuan, a Phd candidate enrolled in 2015 of FED. The presentation was based on a case study and illustrated the current situation of Macao university teachers' professional development and the research on the use of lesson studies mode for teacher professional development. The presentation aroused a positive and heated discussion among the participants.
