From January 19 to 20, the 2018 Forum on Educational Research Frontier and Postgraduate Education of CityU in 2018 held in the Ho Yin Convention Centre, City University of Macau. Influential Scholars from both sides of the Straits, Hong Kong SAR and Macau SAR, Faculty leaders as well as administrative colleagues, and FED postgraduate students, nearly hundreds people participated in this forum. Prof. Zhang Shuguang, Rector of CityU, and Prof. Kong Fanqing, Vice Rector of CityU, also attended the forum. Prof. Zhang gave the welcome speech at the very beginning, and expressed deep gratitude to all the scholars who attended the forum and supported the development of postgraduate education of CityU.

The forum was divided into three sessions, including Opening Ceremony in the 19th afternoon, Postgraduate Education Forum in the morning of Jan. 20, and a series of keynote speech on education research frontier in the afternoon of Jan. 20. In the opening ceremony, Dr. Li Shuying, Academic Registrar as well as Dean of Faculty of Education, introduced the guests who participated in the forum, and appreciated gratitudes to their endorsement and contributions to curriculum construction, dissertation guidance, review and defense, academic forums and teaching, etc. He indicated that this forum aimed at enhancing the further understanding of postgraduate mentor team, optimizing postgraduate training mechanism, standardizing the dissertation guidance, improving the strategy of scientific research quality, and sharing the frontier research of Prof.s. Prof. Yan Zexian, Prof. Wang Zhanjun, Prof. Shi Zhongying, Prof. Chou Chuing, Dr. Ko Po Yuk, all presented a series of wonderful keynote speeches, entitled Education Reaseach from the Perspective of Complexity Paradigm, New Field of Education Research: Postgraduate Education Pedegogy, Philosophy and Education Significance on Confucius’ concept of ‘Ren’, Comparison of Doctoral Education Development between Europe and North America: Also talking about the Postgraduate Education in Taiwan’s Faculty of Education, and The Core Literacy of Curriculum and Professional Development of Teachers in Hong Kong. Prof. Liu Baocun and Prof. Ding Daoqun hosted the entire event during the ceremony.

In the closed-door meeting “Postgraduate Education Forum”, FED academic staffs, Dr. Shao Yanju, Dr. Wang Wanying, Dr. Li Sungyi and visiting scholar Dr. Zhu Jiade, oriented three sessions on the theme of postgraduate course teaching, dissertation standardization, and educational research and publication. Scholars attending this meeting conducted a heated discussion on improving quality of postgraduate cultivation and dissertation management, research ability, etc., and shared many insightful suggestions. Besides, many postgraduate issues were raised during the forum. For instance, selection and replacement of mentor, repetition rate and format of dissertation, external examiners for research proposal and dissertation defense, communication mechanism between postgraduate and their mentor, etc. Participating scholars shared their experiences in both sides of the Straits, Hong Kong SAR and Macau SAR, and finally reached many consensus according to the current teaching situation of Macau and CityU FED. Prof. Cai Zhiming, Head of Graduate Office, also participated in the discussion and introduced the detailed procedure involved in postgraduate students, such as enrollment, training and management of postgraduate.

In the afternoon of January 20th, Prof. Yang Xiaowei, Prof. Law Hau Fai, Prof. Guo Xiaoming, Prof. Qin Huimin, Prof. Liu Hui, Dr. Sean Li, shared their latest research in the field of educational research frontier, including Curriculum Resources Development and School Culture Construction, Research on Hong Kong Curriculum Leadership, Review and Prospect of Macau Fundamental Education, The Development and Future Trend of Life Education in China, Practice and Reflection on Legal Education Construction in China, and Education Phenomenology: Education in New Humanities Perspective. This Forum was hosted by Prof. Wang Cheng-yen and Prof. Li Chen. In addition, Prof. Feng Xiaoying, Prof. Li Jun, Prof. Liao Hui, Prof. Liu Jingduo, Prof. Zhou Guangli, Prof. Lu Xiaozhong, Prof. Hu Bicheng, Prof. Hu Haijian, Prof. Wang Shusheng, Dr. Hong Yanbi, as well as some local scholars, including Prof. Li Defeng, Prof. Wang Min and Dr. Wei Bing, also participated in the forum. The Forum enhanced the construction of postgraduate mentor team, strengthened the communication between mentors and postgraduates, and contributed an academic feast for all postgraduates of FED. In the final session, Dr. Li Shuying delivered the closing speech to express his heartfelt thanks for the education support from all the postgraduate mentor team, academic staffs and administrative department, and postgraduates.

During the forum, FED also hosted Programme Quality Assurance Committee 2nd meeting, which discussed several significant issues such as postgraduate research proposal and dissertation defense, CityU Education Forum, etc. This forum is sponsored by City University of Macau and Macau Foundation.
