Prof. Mark Schofield from Edge Hill University Presents on Quality Teaching and Learning in CityU

Prof. Mark Schofield, Dean of Teaching and Learning Development of Edge Hill University, was invited to deliver a presentation on “Teaching Excellence – Going beyond the Rhetoric and Making It Work in Practice” on January 24 in Ho Yin Convention Centre. CityU Registrar Dr. Shuying Li hosted the presentation. Associate Dean of Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prof. Zhong Wang, Executive Associate Dean of Faculty of Business, Prof. Yueng Wah Khong, Executive Associate Dean of Faculty of International Tourism and Management, Prof. Gavin Chau and Head of Academic Affairs Office, Dr. Zhiming Cai, together with full time academic staff and postgraduate students from Faculty of Education have attended the lecture.

 

Prof. Mark Schofield has elaborated the concept of “Teaching Excellence” by analyzing its importance on students’ enhancement and the sustainability of a university from the aspects of “Active Learning”, “Professionalism”, “University Strategy” and “Educational Technology”. The lecture enabled our teachers and students to gain an in-depth understanding of the concept and the core elements of "Teaching Excellence" and its leading role in improving the university quality, which is very conducive to further enhancing teaching standards and deepening the research of teaching and learning in our university.


Mark Schofield is Professor and the pan-University Dean of Teaching and Learning Development at Edge Hill University, U.K Director of the University’s Confucius Institute, Academic Director of the SOLSTICE Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. He holds Visiting Professorships at the University of Northampton, Leeds Beckett University, and became a Senior Fellow in Educational Development at the University of Windsor, Canada in 2009. He was recently selected as a U.K Government Teaching Excellence Framework Assessor and subsequently supported Edge Hill University to achieving the highest Gold award status.
