On October 30,2018, it is a great honor to invite Professor Tan Chuanbao, the Professor of Faculty of Education of Beijing Normal University to attend the CityU Education Forum at the Educational Institute of the City University of Macau! As Director of the Center for Citizenship and Moral Education, Dr. Tan shares the greatest dilemmas of contemporary ethical and education life, and the relationship between ethical life and moral education.

At the beginning of the lecture, Dr. Tan pointed out that the greatest dilemma of contemporary ethical and education life was that we could almost throw it all away, but ethical life and moral education cannot be separated from certain certainty at all. This is the "Arendt Dilemma" – the holistic subversion of traditional ethics and the ensuing struggle in the personal-life domain, as well as the absolute questioning and its ensuing confusion of traditional political identification. Dr. Tan then explained to us the root causes of Arendt Dilemma, which can be attributed to the fact that the "Dynamic Society" characteristic of Contemporary Society has become the common state of the society. In the end, Dr. Tan shared with us an understanding of, and response to, the Arendt Dilemma as an educational logic that requires us to develop lines that correspond to the characteristics of contemporary society, rather than a single ethical judgment, and to construct rather than destroy.

At the end of the lecture, the audience enthusiastically asked Dr. Tan and made a brief discussion on the education of moral education in primary and middle schools. In the lecture, Dr. Tan also hopes that this sharing will give you a piece of advice -- learn to respect learning to be loving, to think critically and to understand others' point of view.
