CityU Education Forum 24: Dr. Hai-Cing Lin From Central Taiwan University of Science and Technology Shared the Idea of Sharing Economy and Flipped Teaching

     On November 15, 2018, it was a great honor to invite Prof. Hai-Cing Lin, Chair Professor at Central Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Vice Chairman of the Taiwan Society for Organization Learning, to attend the CityU Education Forum at the School of Education of the City University of Macau! Prof. Lin mainly shared how to do the economy sharing and information sharing in the age of the digital as time changed, which means people need change roles in education to achieve the purpose of the collaborative learning.


     At first, Prof. Lin introduced two core notions of sharing economy: “Access but not Ownership” and “Value Unused is Waste”. So, he pointed out the importance of “Sharing Platform”, human and material resources played the role of expanding by using the platform. Prof. Lin shared the cases and put forward that good humanistic value and visual experience would lead to high premium, high quality personalized service would increase user stickiness. Then, Prof. Lin introduced the added value of sharing. Because Internet technology and platform share information infrastructure by drastically decreasing information cost in the course of transactions, it adds to trading opportunity and achieve effective connection of supply and demand. And the essence of sharing is mutual benefit. Lastly, Prof. Lin pointed out the idea of the fusion of sharing and education, he said the emphasis of flipped teaching is that teachers and students need cooperative learning. The role of teachers should shift from traditional one by group cooperation, teachers should find better ways to guide students and motivate their interests in self-directed learning.


     In the question-and-answer session, the audience enthusiastically asked Prof. Lin---How will Taiwan authorities respond to the educational system reform? Prof. Lin said Taiwan authorities would launch new courses next year, which guides students to improve core quality, and he once again emphasized that cooperative learning stimulated thinking. So exploring ideas together and creating meaning can have a new understanding.
