CityU Education Forum 33: A New Paradigm of Education Research — Dynamic Paradigm

On March 21, 2019, it was a great honor to invite Prof. Zhanjun Wang, who is working in Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) and Tsinghua University, to attend the CityU Education Forum. Prof. Wang discussed the new development of education and the demand relation of a new paradigm of research, and he explained what the new paradigm of education research was. Finally, Prof. Wang shared much his own experience and knowledge with us.

Firstly, Prof. Wang took an example of Finland’s education conditions, so as to introduce the current situation that the world education had entered a new era, then introduced our country also had entered a new stage of popularization of higher education. He told us the problems existed in teaching in the middle school and college entrance examination system, it raised a thought-provoking question for us — whether the existence of the college entrance examination is reasonable or not.

Secondly, Prof. Wang told us that modern information technology had had a great impact on education. Our education pattern would need to be reformed if education was to continue to develop. Traditional educational practice hadn’t adapted to the development of the new era, we should renew the conception of education and make some innovations. Prof. Wang created a type of new paradigm named Dynamic Paradigm which could overcome limitations of traditional education research, so it could realize rationalization and scientization in education decision.

After the lecture, the postgraduate students of the School of Education actively asked questions, Professor Wang also gave detailed answers to these questions, and the atmosphere is also active. Professor Wang stress again China's education is going into new era through Q&A. New educational research needs new ideas and forms.
