The 6th Hong Kong Macao Youth Education Research and Development Academic Forum was successfully held

On November 9, 2024, the 6th Academic Forum on Hong Kong and Macao Youth Education Research and Development, titled "Education Development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area: The Present and Future of Smart Education," was successfully held at the Taipa Campus of the City University of Macau. The forum was jointly organized by the School of Education of the City University of Macau and the Hong Kong and Macao Youth Education Research Center of South China Normal University. It received support from the National Key Research Base for Textbook Construction in Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, the School of Education at South China Normal University, the Greater Bay Area Education Integration and Development Think Tank, and the Macau Global Education Research and Innovation Center. The forum focused on educational cooperation and development within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, delving into critical topics such as smart education, internationalization, and the cultivation of diverse talents. It attracted numerous education experts and scholars, providing innovative insights for research on youth education in Hong Kong and Macao.

At the opening of the event, Professor Liying Cheng, Dean of the School of Education at the City University of Macau, and Professor Yudan Shi, Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Youth Education Research Center at South China Normal University, delivered welcoming speeches. Dean Cheng warmly welcomed the attendees and introduced the academic activities and outstanding achievements of the School of Education at the City University of Macau. Professor Shi emphasized the importance of the forum in promoting the development of youth education in Hong Kong and Macao and expressed hope that the event would deepen exchanges and cooperation among higher education institutions in the Greater Bay Area.


The forum featured nine experts and scholars from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, who delivered keynote speeches on topics such as educational transformation, scientific literacy education, and new perspectives on international education. The speakers included Professor Desheng Gao, a "Zijiang Scholar" from East China Normal University; Professor Bing Wei from the Faculty of Education at the University of Macau; Professor Jun Sheng, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Education at Beijing Normal University; Dr. Ching Yung Wong, Principal of Hong Kong Scientia Secondary School; Professor Chenzhi Li from Shenzhen University; Assistant Professor Yun Dai from the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the Chinese University of Hong Kong; Professor Yimin Gao from the Institute of International and Comparative Education at Beijing Normal University; Associate Professor Fang Gao from the Department of International Education at the Education University of Hong Kong; and Dr. Hong Kuong Cheang, Principal of Macau Tong Nam School.

During the afternoon's thematic discussion session, participants engaged in lively discussions on topics such as smart classrooms and school education reform, the internationalization of education in the Greater Bay Area, and the cultivation of diverse talents and the development of systems for nurturing top innovative talents. Additionally, the forum included a dedicated session for postgraduate students, providing them with a platform to showcase cutting-edge research on project-based learning using generative artificial intelligence and the construction of smart classroom pathways.


In the closing remarks, Professor Shi reiterated the academic contributions and social impact of the forum. She expressed hope that the rich content and diverse formats of the event would provide strong support, new ideas, and directions for the future development of youth education in Hong Kong and Macao.
