Recently, the official website of Quanzhou Light Industry Vocational College updated its school profile information, showing that Yu Liang, a 2026 graduate of the Doctor of Education programme of the School of Education at the City University of Macau, has been appointed as the president of the college.
Military background, devoted to vocational education after career transition
Yu Liang holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Hubei University, a Master's degree in Educational Leadership and Management jointly offered by Nankai University and Flinders University of Australia, and a Doctor of Education degree from the City University of Macau.
In July 1998, Yu Liang enlisted in the Fujian Provincial Public Security Border Defence Corps of the Chinese People's Armed Police Force, successively serving as an officer of the Dongshi Border Defence Police Station of Jinjiang Municipal Public Security Bureau, a staff officer of the Jinjiang Municipal Public Security Border Defence Brigade, a political instructor of the Chijiang Border Defence Police Station of Shishi Municipal Public Security Bureau, a political commissar of the Shishi Municipal Public Security Border Defence Brigade, a director of the Political Department of the Quanzhou Municipal Public Security Border Defence Detachment, and a deputy political commissar of the Zhangzhou Border Inspection Station. In 2016, he transitioned from active service at the deputy regimental level and chose to find his own employment, devoting himself to the field of higher vocational education.
Multiple post experiences, fruitful teaching and research achievements
Since 2016, Yu Liang has successively worked in multiple positions in the field of higher vocational education, including student management, logistics and security, Party affairs, social services, education for veterans, personnel management, teaching and research, and publicity and admissions, accumulating comprehensive management experience.
In terms of academic and social appointments, he concurrently serves as vice chairman of the Expert Committee of the National Food Industry-Education Integration Community, vice chairman of the Teacher Development Special Committee of the National Logistics Vocational Education Teaching Steering Committee, executive vice chairman of the Fujian Provincial Logistics Industry Vocational Education Steering Committee, a council member of the Fujian Association of Higher Education, secretary-general of the Hubei University Fujian Alumni Association, president of the Quanzhou Vocational and Technical Education Research Association, vice president of the Quanzhou Speech and Eloquence Society, vice president of the Quanzhou Gerontological Society, vice chairman of the Jinjiang Federation of Social Sciences, vice chairman of the Jinjiang Association for Science and Technology, and vice president of the Jinjiang New Social Stratum Association.
Highly decorated with outstanding teaching achievements
Yu Liang has been awarded a personal third-class merit three times, and has been honoured as an "Outstanding Party Affairs Worker" by the Political Department of the Ministry of Public Security, an "Outstanding Grassroots Instructor" of the Public Security Border Defence Force, one of the "Top Ten Political Instructors" of the Fujian Public Security Border Defence Corps of the Chinese People's Armed Police Force, and a "New Long March Commando" of Quanzhou. After his career transition, he was honoured as a "Special Correspondent of China Education Daily", an "Advanced Individual in Comprehensive Safety Target Management of Schools in Xiamen", a "Quanzhou Science and Technology Special Commissioner", an "Expert in the Jinjiang Social Sciences Talent Pool", and an "Expert in the Jinjiang Science and Technology Expert Pool".
In terms of academic achievements, Yu Liang has published more than 20 academic papers, served as chief editor of 3 textbooks, and served as a lecturer for the national-level teaching resource database "Entrepreneurship and Business Operation for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises". He led and completed the first prize project of the Fujian Provincial Vocational Education Teaching Achievement Award, "Construction and Comprehensive Reform of the Growth Path of 'Dual-Qualification, Dual-Role' Teaching Teams under the Concept of 'Cluster Education'", participated in the special prize project of the Fujian Provincial Vocational Education Teaching Achievement Award, "Building Bridges with Overseas Chinese, Schools and Enterprises Working Together — Innovation and Practice of Maritime Silk Road College's Vocational Education Going Global", as well as more than 10 provincial and municipal-level research projects and more than 20 teaching reform and research projects.
