Professor Zhou Wanlei has been appointed Vice Rector of the University and assumes office on 12 October 2020. Professor Zhou will be in charge of academic affairs and is also appointed the Dean of the Institute of Data Science.


Professor Zhou received a PhD degree in Computer Science from The Australian National University in 1991 and a DSc degree (a higher Doctorate degree) from Deakin University in 2002.  He held the position of Alfred Deakin Professor in 2013 and has been the Head of School of Computer Science at the University of Technology Sydney since June 2018. Professor Zhou held the positions of Chair Professor of Information Technology, and Associate Dean (International Research Engagement) of Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment, Deakin University.  He has also been the Head of School of Information Technology twice.


Professor Zhou also taught at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Monash University (Australia), and the National University of Singapore. In addition, he was a visiting Professor at the City University of Hong Kong, University of Aizu (Japan), the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) and the National University of Singapore. Professor Zhou also worked at Hewlett-Packard Company (USA).


Professor Zhou specialized in research on network security and privacy protection, computer network and online teaching.  He has been in charge of and completed 13 ARC projects and supervised 30 PhD students in recent years.  More than 400 academic papers of Professor Zhou have been published in a series of international journals and presented at international conferences.  Professor Zhou has also participated in the edition of seven academic monographs and published four of his own.  He was a moderator of more than 30 international computer conferences.
