On March 4, 2017, Prof. Li Jun President of the Hong Kong Education Association, Deputy Director of the Center for Educational Policy Research of The University of Hong Kong, visited the City University Education Forum! As the 7th guest speaker, Professor Li brought his new book, Quest for World-Class Teacher Education? A Multiperspectival Study on the Chinese Model of Policy Implementation, which was written in the past ten years. Focusing on the issue of teacher education, Prof. Li shared his extensive research experiences. Dr. Li Shuying, Academic Registrar of City University of Macau as well as the Dean of Faculty of Education, and many teachers as well as students joined the seminar together.

At the beginning of the seminar, as double PhD degree holder, majoring in educational history (East China Normal University) and international education policy (Maryland University), Prof. Li Jun sincerely shared his research experiences since 1982. From selecting research topic and constructing knowledge belief, to locating the academic direction of conducting teacher education policy research, Professor Li used his own research journey to encourage students to be truthful and pragmatic on thesis writing. Regarding the teacher education research, Prof. Li elaborated the pyramid model of teachers' professional development, and analyzed three identities assigned to teachers in the era of globalization and specialization: professional learners, reflective researchers, and transformative public intellectuals. Through the in-depth case analysis, Professor Li also interpreted the importance of multidimensional perspective of teachers' education policy research. In addition, Prof. Li's lecture was ran through three classical questions: whether policy research could be conducted in empirical way? The findings of empirical education policy research is subjective or objective? Is there any alternative approach to constructing policy theory? From these discussion, Prof. Li demonstrated the extreme importance of question awareness for a doctoral dissertation.

In the final Q&A session, Prof. Li had a heated discussion with students on many education research topics, such as the possibility of private teachers’ professionalization, challenges of teachers’ administrative regulations, and gender differences in the structure of academic and teaching staffs. Finally, Professor Li and Registrar Li explored a further discussion. On one hand, they clarify the concepts of teacher education, teacher professionalization, teacher fostering, and teacher training; and on the other hand, they exchanged ideas about the practical paths of teacher education in elementary and higher education.
