On the afternoon of December 19, CityU Academic Registrar and Dead of Faculty of Education Dr. Shuying Li was invited to attend the Classroom Teaching Innovation Seminar in Macau Kao Yip Middle School. Professor Li has delivered a presentation on the professional development of primary and middle school English teachers.

This Seminar was held by Macau Kao Yip Middle School Curriculum Development Centre, Macau Workstation of Primary School Education Professional Committee of China Education Society, which included English demonstration lessons, review sessions, lesson plan rationale and lectures on special topics. The Seminar attracted the excellent English teachers from Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Macau to participate in. Kao Yip Middle School hope this Seminar will further enhance the teaching quality of English teachers in primary and middle schools and advance the development of its IB international high school diploma program.

Professor Li has made professional comments and suggestions for improvement after watching the demonstration lesson given by Hong Kong teacher Miss Tam. After then, Professor Li has delivered a presentation on the topic of “Classroom Based Teachers’ Professional Development”. Registrar Li pointed out that the best training and practical place for teachers to improve their teaching level is in the classroom. Teachers should meet regularly to discuss how to make a good lesson. Teachers, as the researchers and participants, should conduct scientific action research on “research lessons”, through pre and post student interviews, pre and post tests and several rounds of teacher conferences, in order to enhance teachers’ professional development. With his research conducted in Hong Kong, Registrar Li shared a study on "English reading skills", which enables teachers to better understand the methods of classroom teaching. At last, Registrar Li encouraged teachers to learn more about the modern education technology to better carry out the classroom teaching reform and innovation.

In recent years, CityU Faculty of Education established close connections with Macau local primary and middle schools, and actively participates in the development of Macau's basic education and teachers' professional development. In the future, Faculty of Education will put more efforts on teachers’ professional development researches and Macau local primary and middle schools.
