CityU Education Forum 27: Successful Teaching and Teach Successfully—Reflection from Classroom Teaching and Learning

On December 18, 2018, it was a great honor to invite Dr. Dorothy Ngai, who is from Macau Pool To Middle School, to attend the CityU Education Forum. In this lecture, Dr. Ngai focused on the teaching effectiveness of small class teaching and efficient classroom, and school had the requirement which was the high-quality teaching for teachers, she also shared her own rich experience with students.

 

     Firstly, Dr. Ngai introduced this topic of the lecture with a quote “The aim of education inspires students’ potential”. In Macau, the major teaching method is the small class teaching. She told audience the difference between the small class teaching and the big class teaching, and she also described the problems and the status quo of the small class teaching. In recent years, as the reform of education has deepened continuously, traditional teaching and creative thinking teaching collide, it makes a new direction of current education reform. Dr. Ngai emphasized that a successful teaching can’t do without learning and teaching. Dr. Ngai especially focused on describing the importance of classroom management for teachers, she mentioned it was important to establish a good communication with students and took a student with Asperger’s Syndrome as an example to share with the audience.

 

     At the end of the lecture, Dr. Ngai shared a quote from The Note of Learning: If teachers teach well and students work hard, it will bring a win-win situation for teachers and students. The audience had a deep understanding of Macau’s teaching and asked questions enthusiastically. In general, Dr. Ngai once again emphasized that teaching effectiveness lay on applying appropriate teaching methods and teaching management instead of number of people. It was very valuable to have the educational spirit which is student-oriented, and especially pay attention to students’ individual differentiation and meet their diverse needs in study.
