On December 3, 2025, the School of Education held an academic lecture entitled ‘Writing for Publication: How to Get your Article Published’.

The session invited Prof. Andy Curtis to share insights on the key challenges of publishing in academic journals, common mistakes made by researchers, and strategies to avoid errors and maximize research output.

Focusing on the essentials of academic publishing and research, Prof. Andy Curtis compared academic writing to a “journey” that guides the reader.

With an engaging and humorous style, he explained practical skills including crafting strong titles, writing effective literature reviews, and matching manuscripts to suitable journals.

He also offered valuable advice on responding to rejections, overcoming self-doubt, and addressing subjectivity in research.

Using language education and policy research in Macao as a concrete example, Prof. Curtis explored how to identify research gaps through critical reading, learn from high-quality papers, adopt a reader-centered writing approach, and build interdisciplinary collaborations to enhance both the publishability and academic impact of research.
