Associate Professor Xuelan Qiu recently traveled to the United States to participate in multiple international academic activities, actively expanding international exchanges in the field of educational measurement.
First, Dr. Qiu attended the 2026 Annual Meeting of the American Educational Research Association (AERA). AERA is one of the most influential international conferences in the field of educational research worldwide, bringing together scholars, education experts, and policymakers from around the globe. At the conference, Dr. Qiu presented a research paper titled "Understanding Cognitive Attributes and Hierarchies of Exponential and Logarithmic Functions: A Hierarchical CDM Framework," which delved into students' cognitive attributes and hierarchical structures regarding exponential and logarithmic functions. The study employed a Hierarchical Cognitive Diagnostic Model (Hierarchical CDM) to analyze student learning performance with the goal of enabling personalized instruction. This research was conducted in collaboration with Professor Yufeng Guo and her team from Beijing Normal University, demonstrating an innovative application of measurement methods in mathematics learning assessment.

In addition, Dr. Qiu was invited to deliver a featured lecture at the Berkeley Evaluation and Assessment Research Center (BEAR Center) at the University of California, Berkeley. The BEAR Center is renowned for its advanced research in educational assessment and attracts leading scholars in the field of educational measurement from around the world. During her lecture, Dr. Qiu shared her research titled "Polytomous IRT Models for Multidimensional Forced-Choice Items to Measure Intra- and Interpersonal Construct Differences," which introduced polytomous item response theory models for multidimensional forced-choice items to measure psychological construct differences, with practical applications in vocational interest assessment. This research was conducted in collaboration with Professor Jimmy de la Torre from the University of Hong Kong, exploring cutting-edge applications of measurement methods in personality and interest assessment.

This visit to the United States not only showcased the University's achievements in educational measurement but also deepened collaboration with internationally renowned academic institutions, laying a solid foundation for future transnational research and scholarly development.
