2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region, a year of "double celebrations." On this significant occasion, Distinguished Professor Xiaoming Guo of the School of Education published an in-depth article titled "A 25-Year Review and Outlook of Macao's Education Policy" in Macao Daily News. The article comprehensively reviews the achievements and experiences of Macao's education development over the past 25 years since its return to China and offers forward-looking recommendations for the future direction of education policies.

The article highlights the remarkable accomplishments in Macao's education sector over the past 25 years. The Macao SAR government's implementation of 15 years of free education in 2007 has significantly promoted educational equity; the "Patriotic Education and Love for Macao" initiative has yielded notable results; students have excelled in various international assessments, and the international rankings of higher education institutions have risen rapidly. These achievements are attributed to the government's administrative leadership and the collaborative efforts of the education community.

The article also delves into the challenges facing Macao's education in the future, particularly in the context of increasing internationalization and the convergence of practices under the "One Country, Two Systems" framework. Professor Guo proposes that Macao's education should emphasize local characteristics and autonomy, uphold the tradition of diversity, independence, and openness in schooling, leverage the advantages of "Two Systems" under the principle of "One Country," explore effective mechanisms for securing education funding, implement inclusive patriotic education, promote a "small but refined" approach to higher education, and actively explore education development strategies in Hengqin.

The article is divided into three sections, detailing the development experiences of Macao's education over the past 25 years, the local and autonomous nature of education policies, and the outlook for future policies. Professor Guo emphasizes that the development of Macao's education must adhere to the principle of "One Country, Two Systems," safeguarding national interests while respecting Macao's unique characteristics and diverse traditions.

Professor Guo’s article provides valuable insights and recommendations for the future development of Macao's education. The School of Education remains committed to advancing academic research and innovation in the field of education, contributing to the educational endeavors of Macao and the nation.
