On May 16, 2025, a seminar entitled “Intelligent Debate: Enhancing Argumentative Writing through AI Debate” was successfully held on the 21st Floor of the Golden Dragon Centre, hosted by the School of Education, City University of Macau.The session invited Associate Professor Leng Jing from the Department of Education Information Technology at East China Normal University as the keynote speaker. Teachers including Ms. Ouyang Baixiao and Ms. Zhang Jiawei, together with master’s and doctoral students of the School of Education, participated in this academic exchange activity.

At the beginning of the event, Ms. Ouyang Baixiao presented a souvenir to Associate Professor Leng Jing on behalf of the School of Education and extended a warm welcome and sincere gratitude.Associate Professor Leng Jing then delivered an in-depth presentation on the integration of generative artificial intelligence and academic writing. Using ChatGPT as an example, she explored the potential applications and practical challenges of generative AI tools in improving academic writing. Based on a study of university students’ writing on controversial topics, she analyzed how AI can support students in coherence, vocabulary, grammar, and argumentative structure. She also proposed the teaching concept of a “Multi-Agent Debate Framework,” which aroused strong interest among the teachers and students present.

At the end of the seminar, a Q&A and interactive session was held. Teachers and students actively raised questions concerning ethical issues in AI-assisted writing, the cultivation of critical thinking, and future instructional design. Associate Professor Leng Jing responded to each question in detail, fostering a lively, in-depth academic atmosphere.

This seminar not only broadened the horizons of teachers and students from the School of Education regarding generative AI but also provided valuable insights for the future application of AI technology in teaching and research at the higher education level.
