School of Education, City University of Macau, Holds Quanzhou Forum to Discuss Teaching and Talent Development Strategies

In the depth of winter, with the beautiful scenery of Quanzhou as the backdrop, the School of Education, City University of Macau, held its first faculty teaching and talent development forum of the academic year in Quanzhou, Fujian, in December. All academic and administrative staff participated.

Participants combined the international symposium of the Major Project of the National Social Science Fund of China, a special meeting with part-time supervisors, cultural visits, and engaged in in-depth discussions on the development of the school, postgraduate education, and supervisor collaboration.

Part-time Supervisors Collaborate on Postgraduate Training Programs

The meeting focused on the postgraduate training system and quality assurance. Participants included: Professor Li Shuying, Dean of the Institute of Education, College of Education, Shenzhen University; Professor Hu Haijian, Party Secretary of Guangdong University of Technology; Professor Chen Wei, Dean of the School of Educational Science, Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University; Professor Zhao Jianhua, Southern University of Science and Technology. Dr Wang Shusheng, Executive Director of Quanzhou Vocational College of Light Industry; Ms Xiao Yawen, Secretary-General of the City University of Macau Alumni Association (Macau); and PhD student representatives from City University of Macau. Discussions covered training program design, process quality control, thesis standards, and evaluation criteria. The School of Education also introduced the latest management regulations and policies. Supervisors shared teaching and research experience, built consensus, and laid a solid foundation for improving postgraduate training quality and expanding academic cooperation.

Faculty Workshop: Focusing on Postgraduate Education and Three Key Research Areas

 

A special faculty workshop was held to strengthen collaboration between full-time and part-time teachers, with a focus on postgraduate education.

Three key development areas were identified: Educational measurement and assessment; Educational big data and artificial intelligence; Educational psychology. The meeting explored ways to integrate cutting-edge research into the curriculum, enhance students’ research capacity through high-quality academic activities, and improve quality assurance for thesis supervision, proposal defence, and final oral defence.

It also supported the development of new faculty and the formation of a part-time professor team, thereby promoting an efficient collaborative mechanism.

Cultural Visits Enhance Cohesion: Promoting Exchange and Integration

 

During the event, the faculty team visited East and West Pagodas, Qingyuan Mountain, and the West Street Historical and Cultural District in Quanzhou.

These cultural tours deepened mutual understanding and teamwork. As an achievement, they fostered closer faculty ties and injected momentum into future teaching and research collaboration.

This forum produced practical outcomes for the School of Education's curriculum development and postgraduate education strategies.

In the future, the school will continue to deepen teaching reform, enhance research standards, promote high-quality development, and cultivate educational professionals with an international vision and professional competence.
