The exhibition was hosted by the Macao Art Association. It was supported by the Cultural Development Fund of the Macao SAR Government. The PhD Alumni Association of the School of Education at City University of Macau co-organized the event. The display features more than 30 artworks by Dr Xiao Ya Wen from recent years.

As a PhD alumnus in Education from City University of Macau, Dr Xiao Ya Wen devoted herself to educational theory and practice. After graduation, she maintained close ties with the school. As a guest lecturer, she provides academic support and shares her experience in aesthetic education and art practice with teachers and students. Her research—including visual art creation, aesthetic education teaching, and psychological counselling—aligns closely with the school’s doctrines. These include holistic education and cross-disciplinary integration. This work injects practical vitality into the school’s research in related fields.

With “Mandala: A Trilogy of Individual Development” as its core, the exhibition shows the combined journey of art and life growth. It does this through three phases: the Discipline Period, the Liberation Period, and the Symbiosis Period. This theme echoes the school’s educational mission. The school aims to balance teaching and research, cultivate high-level talents with professional competence and social responsibility, and promote high-quality regional education.

During the opening ceremony, Dean Li Ying Cheng emphasized that aesthetic education is key to holistic education. Dr Xiao Ya Wen, an outstanding PhD alumnus and guest lecturer, has merged mandala art with psychology and education, offering a new perspective on interdisciplinary aesthetic education. Her belief—nurturing people through beauty and influencing life with life—continues the school’s philosophy. Her work also models contemporary aesthetic education by blending teaching and artistic creation.
